New Standard Academy

My students have been studying how authors use nonfiction text features to help readers better understand texts. Today my students became surgeons looking for nonfiction text features to help save their "patients'" lives. Students examined magazines and newspapers, and, with 4th grade surgical precision, they extracted their findings and transplanted them into their patients (their nonfiction text feature sample booklet). The addition of the audio and visual heart rate monitor kept my students on their toes, as they knew too much noise would harm their patients. It was a wonderful learning experience, and I can't wait for them to do their "post-op" reports over the next few days.  Click Read More for more photos.
